Journal #8

My literacy narrative assignment will be about the first debate case I wrote my sophomore year of high school. This story back in time will be a rose bud of sorts. An explanation for the reasoning behind why I believe writing to be so valuable. It will include why I got into speech and debate, how I was successful in it, and how it affected me as a writer.

  • Introduction: include a hook, background information, and the assignment task itself. Describe the setting, feeling, and general information about the story being told in the assignment.

  • First Paragraph: Begin with how you go into speech and debate, then explain how writing is so closely knit into the fabric of the activity itself. Use anecdotal evidence as the story requires it.

  • Second Paragraph: Move into the writing piece itself, the separation of church and state and the meaning behind the debate topic and why it meant more than just winning a trophy.

  • Third Paragraph: Use metacognition to reflect on the experience from then to present day. How did your thinking change and how did that epirence then change how you write today?

  • Conclusion: Summarize what has been said and rework the overarching theme of the paper into the final few sentences.
